  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized University.
  • Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
  • Be Computer Literate.
  • Hold a current practicing certificate.
  • At least 2-3 years experience.
  • Knowledge of court rules and procedures.
  • Be self driven.
  • Able to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
  • Have good communication, presentation, research and analytical skills.

The Firm is a full service law firm which provides a broad range of corporate and commercial legal services. We have significant experience in the provision of general advisory and transactional legal services, notably in aviation, banking and securities, capital markets, corporate finance, corporate taxation, energy, mergers and acquisitions, public procurement, real estate development and conveyancing, retirement benefits and trusts, as well as civil litigation.

We are seeking to fill the position of an Associate in our Commercial Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Your duties and responsibilities shall include:  

  •  Drawing up and reviewing various legal documents including but not limited to contracts, agreements, opinions, deeds,  and other documents required when representing the Firm's clients
  • Acting as a sole legal adviser to the Firm's clients as to their legal rights and obligations carrying out such duties and obligations as would ordinarily arise from such role
  •  Providing support and assistance to the Department's Partners/Advocates whether as a transaction team resource or working individually
  • Conducting, under supervision where necessary, client meetings and maintaining general contact with the client
  • Conducting investigations, statistical, documentary and legal research
  • Reviewing and preparing legal records and/or precedents
  • Supervising and coordinating activities of legal support/or other personnel
  • Remaining current on legal developments relevant to the practice of law and where called upon, providing training, guidance and materials to other members of the Firm
  • Participating in and meaningfully contributing to Firm activities including all regular and ad hoc reporting programs and/or structures, and professional development strategies
  • Carrying out such other duties and obligations as would ordinarily arise from such role

Education qualifications:

  • A technically strong advocate with over 3 years experience with solid exposure to commercial law practice.  Experience in mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance are an added bonus
  • LLB degree from a recognised university (Minimum Upper Second)
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya or an equivalent qualification in the Commonwealth (with the intention to immediately qualify to practice in Kenya)  
  • Broad base of legal practice experience

Skills

  • Fluency in English is mandatory
  • Demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills
  • Developed interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively and work diplomatically with Clients and individuals at all levels across the Firm
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with all individuals across the Firm
  • Must have high moral integrity and character
  • Highly organised and good time management skills
  • PC and other relevant technology competencies (e.g. Microsoft applications)
